Barockify!

Cajsa talks about a project with young people and baroque music.

I am a piano teacher but also a harpsichordist who specializes in performance of early music. During the summer I was the harpsichord teacher at a course, it was for young people with an interest in baroque music on period instruments. Barockify! Nordic national team for young people in baroque music. The camp started in 2025 in Linköping and will return next summer. Here is a video from the course’s final concert BAROCKIFY  RAMEAU  OUVERTURE  LES INDES GALANTES – YouTube and a link to their website Barockify. It was an inspiring experience and now I have decided to give more focus to teaching baroque playing techniques in my daily teaching as well.

A harpsichordist in an orchestra plays continuo, which can simply be described as a chord accompaniment in the right hand and a bass part in the left hand. Continuo is what the harpsichordists at Barockify! get to practice. Now I want to prepare younger students so that in the future they can take a place on a baroque course if they want to.

Bringing the harmonic aspect into piano teaching is something that has always interested me. Now I will try to get the students to come to terms with chord inversions and harmonic progressions in classical music in a clearer way. For those who want, we can do it with a clear focus on baroque music and then they can also try playing the harpsichord. In daily teaching this can be done to a certain extent, but we also have to take advantage of camps and shorter courses in group situations. Now during the upcoming autumn holidays we will organize group courses in the piano studio that we call “Music and chords”. More info about it will come soon.
